    What Should I Expect?

No matter where you decide to audition, your day will begin with us at the time that you’ve chosen. We recommend that you arrive fifteen minutes prior to your scheduled timeslot so you don’t feel rushed. You should bring one hard copy of your headshot and resume.

When you come into the room with us, you’ll share your two vocal selections (please keep those selections to the recommended times), and your monologue. Then, we’ll chat with you for a minute or two and get to know a little about you!

Later in the day you’ll come back to the same room for the scheduled dance audition that will be taught by our current students and/or faculty.

    Dance Call Information

For students who audition on our University Park campus – the dance call will take place at 3PM Eastern Time. All must participate.

For students who audition in NYC and Chicago – there will be two dance calls at the end of your audition day. Two weeks prior to your audition you will be invited to schedule your dance call. You can choose to dance at 4PM local time, or 5PM local time. All students must schedule their dance call on the same day as their audition.

Our goal in auditions is to make you as comfortable as possible. We like to think that we’re a pretty fun and relaxed group and we’d love for you to feel the same way! Remember – we want you to share your work with us – not perform for us.

We all want the same thing!

    About Penn State Musical Theatre

The Musical Theatre B.F.A. degree program is an intensive pre-professional training program with alumni working around the country and the world.

Our faculty is made up of artists dedicated to both the profession and the academy. As working actors, dancers, music directors, choreographers, and directors, we bring our students Broadway, national tour, regional theatre, and film and television experience. With a ratio of thirteen faculty to forty-nine students, the training is individualized, specific, and demanding.

Students accepted into the program will receive specialized training in singing, acting, and dance. In addition to this training, Penn State Musical Theatre offers signature initiatives like the New Musicals Initiative (which commissions musical theatre writers to write for our students), the Master Class Series, and our unique Musical Theatre Wellness Center – which assists our students in the areas of Mental, Physical, Vocal, and Nutritional Health during their training.
