Joelle Dietrick and Owen Mundy were selected from a national call for artists to create a new site-specific work, The Speed of Thinking.
Dietrick and Mundy collaborate on public artworks, digital games, and other works of art, with a focus on how data is pictured and visualized. The Speed of Thinking visualizes Dietrick’s research on seaports across the globe. A digital print with a dynamic video overlay, the piece comes to life each evening as Allen Street becomes engulfed in Fall’s early darkness. Visible throughout the night, the work acts as a light-filled beacon for downtown State College.
