Please join us for an exciting afternoon of chamber music for clarinet and strings, coordinated by professors James Lyon and Anthony J. Costa. The program will feature two works inspired by folk music from around the globe. We will begin with Jungyoon Wie’s (b. 1990) Songs of My Grandmother (2021) which marks her "first attempt to write a musical biography drawing from her own family history and the cultural, musical, and religious influences she had growing up in Korea.” This moving quartet is in three movements and composed for violin, clarinet, cello and piano. The second work is African-British composer/conductor, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's (1875-1912) folksy Clarinet Quintet (1895). This work includes English, Bohemian, and American flavors with a Dvorák influence, and is composed for clarinet with string quartet.
