Teresa Sekhon

Biography

Teresa Sekhon is a Lecturer in Art Education at the Pennsylvania State University, a position she has held since August 2019. She currently serves as the Field Coordinator and Supervisor of Student Teachers in Art Education and the Coordinator of the Saturday Art Program at Penn State. She coordinates and supervises all practicum and student teaching activities for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Art Education degree program and serves on a variety of committees relating to administrative work and teaching. Through her position as Field Coordinator and Supervisor of Student Teachers, she works closely with school districts across the Centre Region, communicating with art teachers, supervisors, and other administrators to successfully place and guide student teachers through the student teacher practicum activities that leads to their final degree conferral and teacher certification.

Mrs. Sekhon strives to empower and prepare students with the means to be thoughtful and inclusive educators that can communicate and express themselves, promote an appreciation of cultural diversity, and to encourage students to become life-long learners by employing 21st-century skills that can be shared with their future students. She has a strong commitment to education and best practices as an educator, attending professional development to further enhance her skills to meet the diverse needs of students and the Penn State Art Education Program.

In addition to her teaching and service activities, Mrs. Sekhon serves as the faculty advisor for The Pennsylvania Art Education Association student chapter. Prior to her position at Penn State, she served as Art Specialist for the Hillsborough County School District in Tampa, FL where she guided countless students through their participation in arts festivals, community engagement projects, and arts contests, and served as an Art Teacher Professional Learning Community Leader. Mrs. Sekhon holds the MST in Visual Arts – All Grades (art education) and BFA in Fine Art Studio from the Rochester Institute of Technology (NY).
