Milagros Ponce De León

Biography

Milagros Ponce de León is a Scenic Designer and Professor of Scenic Design in the School of Theatre at Penn State. She holds a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, an MFA in Studio Arts, and an MFA in Scenic Design from the University of Maryland at College Park. Her areas of specialization include scenic design, 3D drafting, drawing and painting, figure drawing, color theory, and rendering for the theatre.

Recent Scenic design credits include the production of Disney Hercules for Disney Live Entertainment/Walt Disney Theatre, Disney Destiny, The Hello Girls co-produced by the Michael Cassel Group and Syracuse Stage, The Lehman Trilogy at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre (2025 Carbonell Nomination for Outstanding Scenic Design) and the world premiere of Disney Tale of Moana for Disney Live Entertainment/Walt Disney Theatre, Disney Treasure. Regionally her scenic design work has been seen at Asolo Rep, Cincinnati Playhouse, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, Ensemble Studio Theatre (NYC), Everyman Theatre, Ford’s Theatre, Gala Hispanic Theatre, Imagination Stage, The John F. Kennedy Center, National Players, Olney Theatre Center, Round House, Studio Theatre, and Signature Theatre (D.C.) among others.

Upcoming design projects include Ford’s Theatre, Olney Theatre Center, and Disney Live Entertainment. Milagros has received five Helen Hayes Nominations for Outstanding Scenic Design in the Washington, D.C. area and she is a member of United Scenic Artists, Local-829. her work can be seen at milagrosponcedeleon.com
