Four Fantastic Arts Camps
Playful Ink Lab: Movement, Performance + Cross-Cultural Expression
1-Week Camp
This one-week camp invites students to experience Chinese calligraphy as a living, moving, and highly playful art form. We will explore calligraphy through gesture, rhythm, breath (qi), and full-body movement, allowing students to feel how writing becomes performance.
By the end of the week, students will present a short Ink Performance Jam, combining physical calligraphy with digital marks. This camp emphasizes creativity, embodied expression, and the fun of experimenting across mediums and cultures. It is perfect for students who are interested in art, movement, culture, and new technology.
ShapeShift: Sculpture Summer Studio Intensive
1-Week Camp
Dive into a dynamic, hands-on, interdisciplinary summer adventure where high school artists explore form, material, and spatial thinking through Sculpture’s rich traditions and bold contemporary practices. Over the course of one exciting week, students will work with wood, metal, fiber, found objects, and installation while experimenting with mold making, casting, and collaborative creative problem-solving. Field trips to the Palmer Museum of Art, the Arboretum, and the HUB-Robeson Gallery spark fresh inspiration as campers expand their artistic voices in a supportive studio environment filled with specialized tools and guided exploration. The week culminates in a vibrant group exhibition in the Zoller Gallery, showcasing the innovative artworks students created and celebrating their growth, curiosity, and newfound confidence as emerging sculptors.
Threads of Innovation: Sustainable Fashion + Creative Design
2-Week Camp
A summer intensive camp introducing students to sustainable fashion, creative textile practices, and contemporary design thinking. Participants explore how discarded materials – denim, fabric scraps, and plastics – can be transformed into expressive fashion pieces through upcycling and experimental construction. Students learn essential fashion foundations, including fiber types, fabric behavior, color application, textile manipulation, and introductory garment draping.
Alongside hands-on studio practice, brief lessons in fashion history examine the evolution of denim, the rise of sustainability movements, and influential designers who reimagined material use. Students develop sketching and illustration skills while designing theme-based accessories that communicate personal or social narratives. They also customize or recycle their own clothing, applying techniques learned during the program to create meaningful, wearable transformations.
The course culminates in a collaborative mini-runway showcase or installation, giving students the opportunity to style, present, and reflect on their creative process. By the end of the program, participants gain confidence in craftsmanship, sustainability awareness, and creative experimentation – leaving inspired to pursue fashion as both an artistic practice and a platform for environmental change.
Worldbuilding: Game Design + AI
This camp for students ages 13–18 focused on storytelling, visual design, and ethical digital creation. Students learn how fictional worlds are designed before stories begin, drawing on animation, games, and films such as WALL-E, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Pokémon. The camp emphasizes environmental storytelling, where settings communicate history, culture, and meaning.
By the end of the camp, students will present their original worldbuilding-based game to the class. They will present their work by explaining their design decisions, creative process, and story, followed by a guided discussion with fellow campers and camp leaders. The game will serve as a strong foundation that can be adapted to multiple formats, including VR, in-person, and online.
Students will build skills in storytelling, worldbuilding, and AI, and learn how design, consistency, and logic give meaning to animation, games, and film. Each student leaves with a portfolio-ready worldbuilding package including maps, written rules, and a game 2 or media concept. The finished portfolio will be useful for art classes, college applications, and careers in creative media.
