Clarinet Studies

The Penn State Studio is made up of a diverse group of students studying clarinet performance, music education, and minoring in music. All students (undergraduate and graduate) receive weekly-individualized instruction in the form of a 60-minute lesson. It is our goal that no matter what major, all of our students learn how to be excellent and diverse performers, teachers, and entrepreneurs; a goal, made evident by the success of our  numerous alumni!

Penn State Clarinetists have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of ensembles and work with world-class coaches and conductors. Studio members perform in clarinet quartets, woodwind quintets, clarinet choir, concert bands, and orchestras. Studio members also study how to make and work on their own reeds! The Penn State Clarinet Choir is one of the top ensembles of its kind in the area and was featured at the 2017 International Clarinet Association’s CLARINETFEST, held in Orlando, Florida.

The Penn State Clarinet Studio frequently hosts  world-famous clarinetists in recitals and masterclasses allowing students to network and learn from the top clarinetists in the business. In addition, Penn State’s  Single Reed Summit  is an exciting large-scale event held every two to three years, drawing professional and student clarinetists from all over the country for performances, masterclasses, and competitions. The Penn State  Clarinet Day  is scheduled on years between Single Reed Summits and is an exciting one-day event featuring guest artists and vendors.

Penn State is an exciting place to grow as a clarinet player! If you are interested in applying to the Penn State School of Music, please see our link above (Studio Facts) for more information on opportunities for prospective students.
