School of Music appoints Percussionist Lee Hinkle

Lee Hinkle will be joining the Penn State School of Music this August as the Assistant Professor of Music (Percussion). Dr. Hinkle is coming from the University of Maryland College Park, where he has been on faculty since 2010. Dr. Hinkle holds a Doctor of Musical Arts and a Master of Music from the University of Maryland, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of South Florida.

School of Music Director David Frego said, “The students and faculty truly enjoyed interacting with Dr. Hinkle during his interview. He is bringing a collaborative spirit with him and is looking at forging connections between the percussion studio and areas including composition, music technology, entrepreneurship, and all of the Penn State ensembles.” Dr. Hinkle is an active solo and ensemble performer. Highlights include performances with the National Symphony Orchestra, Florida Orchestra, Washington Master Chorale, and the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra. He has toured with several performers and groups, including Bebe Neuwirth, Bernadette Peters, and the American Wind Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist and clinician, Dr. Hinkle has presented sessions at universities, and festivals around the globe. Dr. Hinkle has presented at several performances and interest sessions at national and international Percussive Arts Society conferences.
