Kathryn Hylton has led a range of choral ensembles including upper and lower voice ensembles and SATB choirs of nearly all sizes and levels of experience. She has prepared advanced choirs for collaborations with major orchestras including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra. As a guest conductor, Dr. Hylton has led ensembles for the New York State School Music Association, Maryland Summer Chorus and Orchestra, and University of Maryland Bach Cantata Series. She is a dedicated member of the American Choral Director’s Association and has served on several committees for its Eastern Division. In addition to her work as a conductor and music educator, Dr. Hylton is an active church musician, composer, and Dalcroze practitioner. Her doctoral dissertation, “The Renaissance Repertoire Challenge: Achieving Authentic Choral Performances through the Application of Dalcroze Techniques” brings together her two primary areas of research: the contemporary choral singing of Renaissance vocal music and the teaching methods of Émile Jaques-Dalcroze. Dr. Hylton’s past teaching positions include Director of Choral Music at Blair Academy (NJ), Choral Music Teacher at St. Thomas More Academy (MD), and Teaching Assistant in conducting, ensembles, and aural skills during her time as a doctoral student at the University of Maryland.
