Charlene Gross

Biography

Charlene Gross’s work for theatre, dance, and opera have been seen on and off-Broadway, across the country and on London’s West End. She has been Resident Costume Designer for Ohio Light Opera since 2005 and was the Production Manager 2007–17 when she joined the Penn State faculty. Charlene’s more than 55 set and costume designs with OLO include many American Premiers and International Recording Releases. Off-Broadway and regional designs include Cleveland Museum of Art, Florida Repertory Theatre, MerrimackRep, Cleveland Playhouse, Ingenuity Festival, the Flea, Rattelstick Theatre, Perry Street Theatre, and NYC Fringe Festival. Dance designs have been seen at Groundworks, Joyce SoHo, Symphony Space, Kunnigham Studios, The Yard (Martha’s Vineyard), West WaveDance Festival, NBC Nightly News, and The Gamesters’ Manhattan Magic at the Sands Casino, Atlantic City. She has worked Off-Broadway and regionally at Seattle Repertory, Guthrie, NY Public Theater, Florida Stage, New York Shakespeare Festival, Manhattan Theatre Company, Berkshire Theatre Festival, and the Classic Stage Company.

Educational design credits include work at Berkeley Carroll School, the Juilliard School, Columbia University, NYU, Ashland University, Baldwin Wallace University, University Memphis Opera, and The College of Wooster. She taught Costume Design at Ashland University and The College of Wooster. Ms. Gross holds an MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. She is a member of USITT, Costume Society of America, and United Scenic Artists, Local 829.
