Biography
Ye Sul Park, Ph.D., is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Art Education at Penn State. As an art educator, curator, and researcher, she examines how new media and emerging technologies are reshaping the landscape of art education and contemporary cultural practices. Her research focuses on the evolving relational dynamics between humans and nonhuman technologies, as well as the social and ethical implications of generative AI systems. Through the design of pedagogical frameworks and educational programs, she seeks to support learners in navigating an increasingly complex media environment with both creativity and criticality.
Using a design-based action research methodology, Park's dissertation explores how embodied art experiences and visuality can foster students' critical awareness of the social and ethical issues surrounding AI, positing artistic inquiry as a form of resistance to the power structures embedded in AI systems. She received the Elliot Eisner Doctoral Research Award in Art Education from the National Art Education Association (NAEA) for her dissertation and her research has been published in journals such as Studies in Art Education, Art Education, and Visual Arts Research.
