Biography
Mike Garrett is a seasoned lighting and sound technician, designer, and educator with over two decades of experience in theatrical and live event production. Currently finishing a MFA in Theatre at the University of Idaho, with a focus on Lighting Design.
Mike has held key academic roles at Cornell University and Ithaca College, where he taught a wide range of technical theatre courses and mentored students in lighting, sound, and projection technology and design. His leadership in production management and technical supervision has supported hundreds of performances, from mainstage theatre to student showcases.
Outside academia, Mike has served as Technical Director for Ithaca Ballet and Production Manager at the historic State Theatre of Ithaca. His freelance work spans lighting design, rigging, and audio engineering for clients including HBO, Google, Mazda, and Binghamton University. He’s contributed to high-profile events such as NASCAR at Watkins Glen, Lawrenceville Academy 200th anniversary, and numerous national concert tours.
Mike is certified in OSHA safety, CPR instruction, and volunteers as an Emergency Medical Technician. Mike continues to expand his expertise through workshops in rigging, intimacy coordination, and race and theatre. His commitment to education, entertainment technology, and creative collaboration makes him a vital force in the performing arts and live event industries.
