Intergenerational Community Design Competition
Design for Connections Across Generations
Do you have a bold idea for a space that brings generations together?
The inaugural Intergenerational Community Design Competition aims to spark creativity and innovation in designing spaces that foster intergenerational community connection and inclusion.
This design competition is held in conjunction with the 2nd Biennial Mid-Atlantic Intergenerational Conference hosted by Stockton University June 3-5 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It encourages innovative team designs for shared spaces that promote intergenerational living, learning, caregiving, wellness, and connection.
The event is held in coordination with the Stuckeman School, Hamer Center for Community Design, and the Intergenerational Program in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State, along with a planning committee of regional, national, and international partners (see below).

Design categories
- Health & Wellness – Spaces promoting all-ages’ well-being
- Caregiving – Shared care settings
- Education & Lifelong Learning
- Housing – Age-integrated living
- Public Spaces & Facilities
- Holistic Intergenerational Living – Multi-domain, integrated models
Team submissions are encouraged
- Intergenerational Teams – youth and older adults
- Collaborative Teams – students, educators, professionals, researchers, community members
- Multidisciplinary Teams
- Professional teams – Individuals with formal training/experience in design-related fields
- Non-Professional teams – Students, community members, those with lived experience
Submission Requirements
- Project Title and Summary (150–250 words)
- Visual Representation (sketches, drawings, models, collages, digital renderings, videos)
- Written Narrative (500–800 words)
- Optional Addendum (up to 300 words)
- All submissions are due by Feb. 2, 2026. Digital submissions are encouraged.
Judging & Awards
- Professional and non-professional entries will be judged separately.
- One professional and one non-professional entry will be selected in each category.
- Winners will be notified by March 31, 2026 and will be:
- Recognized by a Competition Subcommittee during the Mid-Atlantic Intergenerational Conference.
- Featured on the conference website and in post-conference media.
- Free conference registration for one person per team.
