Planning & Process
Overview
The College of Arts and Architecture is crafting its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan – and it starts with your voice. Unlike traditional top-down plans, ours is being built from the ground up, shaped by the insights, ideas, and aspirations of our entire community. Together, we’ll chart bold directions, celebrate what makes us distinct, and set a course that defines the decade ahead.

Timeline
From September through October, we’ll host a series of interactive sessions to gather ideas, identify priorities, and co-create our 2026–2030 Strategic Plan. Each session builds on the last, so we encourage you to join one during each of the three Acts. These gatherings will be highly collaborative and interactive, designed to spark meaningful connections across the many units and departments within our college.

Resources
Please familiarize yourself with the following resources. They will provide a foundation and framework for this process.
Documentation + Media
This section will serve as a living record of the process — an evolving map of key insights, ideas, and themes emerging from our planning events. Check back for documents, media, and other highlights as the story unfolds.
Act 1 Harvest
This document serves as a first attempt to group insights and ideas together. This list does not represent what will be in the final strategic plan – but aims to illustrate one potential structuring of ideas. Subsequent workshops will attempt to further clarify, articulate, and organize these insights into a final plan that everyone feels excited around.

Act 2 Harvest
Act 1 surfaced fifteen key insights – “what matters most” for the College’s future. During the Act 2 sessions, participants revisited those insights to refine, prioritize, and rewrite them – structuring them as potential goals and objectives. After the Act 2 workshops, the planning team combined these themes with results from a college-wide survey of roughly 100 respondents. Together these inputs revealed consistent patterns across audiences:
- Collaboration
- Civic engagement
- Career readiness
- Visibility of the arts
- Access and belonging
Those five themes became the backbone for the draft goals and objectives presented here.

Act 3 Harvest
Faculty and staff from the college came together for Act 3 of the strategic planning process – turning shared ideas and priorities into a framework for the next five years. We created performance metrics and explored how the outcomes these goals might position the college not just for the next five years, but ten or twenty years downstream.
