Arts and Architecture summer commencement student marshal announced
Sophia Krupsha has been selected as the College of Arts and Architecture’s student marshal for the summer 2021 commencement ceremony scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 14 at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Krupsha, a native of Kingston, Pennsylvania, where she lives and maintains a studio practice, will receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art with a focus on Drawing and Painting, and a minor in Art History.
While at Penn State, Krupsha was a member of the Painting Club, Sculpture Club and was secretary of the Arts and Architecture House for the 2018-2019 academic year. She also served as president of the HumpDay Gallery for fall 2020.
Krupsha completed internships at Isabella Garrucho Fine Arts and the Sordoni Art Gallery, as well as a residency with Arts Letters and Numbers.
During her undergraduate career, she received the Baynard D. Kunkle Scholarship and the Karen D. Berggren Best-in-Show award at the Spring 2020 Undergraduate Juried Exhibition for her piece “West Nanticoke.”
Her research delved into the study of nostalgia and the living memory of areas such as the Rust Belt region, specifically Northeastern Pennsylvania, which was the focus of a prolific thesis that produced more than 15 works of art in two years.
Krupsha plans on continuing her education by pursuing a master of fine arts degree.
