In times of turmoil, art serves as a mirror that reflects the feelings of peoples involved. Music offers powerful examples of such perspectives, giving voice to emotions in a way that words often cannot. In this program, the oboe takes the role of narrator in works that focus on societal and global conflicts from the 20th and 21st centuries. From the Syrian refugee crisis to the atrocities of the Holocaust, each piece offers a unique lens for understanding issues of our past and present while sharing a dire - but hopeful - message for the future. Join Andreas Oeste, Melody Quah, and friends in this program featuring works by composers including Benjamin Britten, Pavel Haas, Judith Shatin, and Diana Syrse.
