The Penn State Flute Studio welcomes internationally acclaimed flutist, conductor, and educator Ransom Wilson to Penn State for a "Farewell Concert." This event is sponsored by UPAC. This event is free and open to the public.
Ransom Wilson is a renowned American flutist, conductor, and educator who has made a significant contribution to classical music. Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1951, he studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts and The Juilliard School before studying with the famous French flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal in Paris. Wilson made his official New York debut in 1976 and went on to perform as a soloist with major orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, and London Symphony Orchestra. He has also recorded more than 35 albums and received three Grammy Award nominations. In addition to his successful career as a flutist, Wilson has conducted orchestras and operas and taught generations of young musicians, including as a longtime professor of flute at Yale School of Music.
