Words and Music by Michael JohnLaChiusa
Based on the original play written by Federico Garcia Lorca
Directed and Choreographed by Christopher Campbell
Music Directed by Anne Van Steenwinkel

LaChiusa brings a musical voice to Federico García Lorca’s final 1936 masterpiece, The House of Bernarda Alba, through pulsing castanets, trilling Spanish guitars and resounding rhythmic stomps.

In a small village in rural Spain, the freshly widowed Bernarda imposes a stringent mourning period on her household. However, Bernarda’s five daughters struggle with her cold regime as their dreams, desires, and the lure of the outside world begin to permeate their isolated existence. Bernarda Alba explores the depths of desire and the repercussions of suppression.
