These are immersive, highly enjoyable and valuable opportunities to explore and expand your horizons. Young Composers Institute

The Penn State Young Composers Institute is a fifteen-course virtual program for high school students interested in music composition. It allows students to extend their musical studies by exploring the intricacies of composing original music. Weekly two-hour classes are held on Zoom delivering a curriculum that includes the study of instrumentation, orchestration, notation, digital engraving, modern approaches to form and harmony, and current stylistic trends in composition. During the program, students will compose one or more works of their own and receive regular feedback and a studio recording by Penn State performers. The Young Composers Institute is perfect for high school students who are passionate about music and excited about composing, helping them grow their skills and develop their portfolios.

Forward March: The Blue Band Experience

Penn State Blue Band

Dates: XX–XX Month 2026

The Penn State Blue Band will host YOU and other high school band participants as a Penn State Blue Band recruit, giving you the opportunity to perform with the historic Penn State Blue Band inside Beaver Stadium during the annual Blue-White game.

This event is open to current high school band students, grades 10–12, who play woodwind, brass, drumline (snares, tenors/quads, bass, cymbals only), and band front (majorettes and flags). During your visit, you will be paired with a current Penn State Blue Band member who will guide you through the day.

In addition, participants will be provided with a Blue Band “Forward March” t-shirt and a once in a lifetime experience to play with the Penn State Blue Band!

SAAS – Summer Art at SoVA

School of Visual Arts

Dates: XX–XX Month 2026

Our immersive arts experience camps are explorative, fun programs for high school students in grades 9–12. Camps are Monday through Friday, day-long, culminating in a group exhibition and Creamery ice-cream reception at Zoller Gallery, featuring all campers, and open to the public, on each Friday. Camps provide instruction, supervision, all art supplies needed, and tons of fun and creativity. Field trips to the Palmer Museum of Art and the Arboretum are planned. Campers will also receive a certificate of completion.

Blue Band Clinic

Penn State Blue Band

Dates: XX–XX Month 2026

The Blue Band High School Summer Clinic is an opportunity for current high school marching band instrumentalists and band front members to learn the marching and music traditions of the Penn State Marching Blue Band in a student-centered, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment and get a taste of what is like to be a student at Penn State! Clinic participants will have the opportunity to work directly with the Penn State Blue Band directors, staff, and students to improve their musicianship and marching fundamentals in both traditional Big Ten “Blue Band” High Step and corps style.

STATE! Musical Theatre Program

School of Theatre

Summer Theatre Artistic Training Experience (STATE) is an intensive two-week musical theatre summer program for high school students about to enter 11th or 12th grades.

This program provides focused and talented young artists a two-week immersion in collegiate musical theatre training at Penn State. Students will get a sample of the rigors of artistic training as well as an idea of the unique components of integrated training that are the hallmark of Penn State Musical Theatre. Students will train with Penn State faculty, guest professionals, and noted alumni in all three areas of musical theatre (voice, acting, dance). Individualized attention and private instruction are also included. Days also include the integrated approach to musical theatre unique to Penn State through studio classes. Evenings include master classes, cabarets, and a menu of offerings for the serious musical theatre student. Practical classes and advice in navigating the college audition process as well as the professional musical theatre industry will also be included.

Architecture and Landscape Architecture Camp

Are you fascinated by architecture, graphics, design, and the built environment? The Penn State Architecture and Landscape Architecture Summer Camp offers high school students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the kinds of activities that take place in a university’s professional design programs in architecture and landscape architecture.

Faculty from the Penn State Stuckeman School will mentor the campers in a residential learning environment. You can try your hand at design and take part in hands-on drawing and model-making activities through guided introductory exercises.

STATE ON STAGE! Stage Summer Acting Program

Our Acting Summer Intensive (STATE ON STAGE) is a concentrated program for high school students about to enter 11th or 12th grades, providing young artists a two week immersion in collegiate acting training at Penn State. Students will get a sample of the rigors of artistic training as well as an idea of the unique components of integrated training. Students will train with Penn State's renowned faculty artists. Individualized attention and private instruction are also included. Days also include the integrated approach to acting unique to Penn State through studio classes. Evenings include master classes, cabarets, and a menu of offerings. Practical classes and advice in navigating the college audition process as well as the professional industry will also be included.

Summer Art Camps at the Palmer

Palmer Museum of Art

Dates: XX–XX Month 2026

Summer Art Camp at the Palmer Museum of Art is devoted to artistic adventures. Campers will enjoy exploring the galleries, creating art, and participating in a variety of art-inspired activities and games.

Each week offers two camps, morning and afternoon, so campers can create a full-day option by registering for both. Instructors are highly skilled and experienced K–12 art teachers. Sessions offer a specialized art focus and include age-appropriate rest times, creative play, opportunities for socializing, and group walks through the Arboretum (weather permitting). Full-day campers will pack their own lunches and snacks.
