Trumpet at Penn State
Trumpet Studio
Penn State School of Music
The Penn State Trumpet Studio believes in providing a supportive and comprehensive experience for undergraduate and graduate trumpeters.
Students receive a weekly 1-hour lesson along with an additional two hours of studio class/trumpet ensemble per week. We aim to ensure mastery of the fundamentals so that everyone can pursue their musical goals.
Studio members are active in a wide array of ensembles that include four concert bands, four orchestras, three jazz bands, jazz combos, brass quintet, Blue Band, and various contemporary offerings.
Guest artists are also invited throughout the year to provide diverse perspectives that enrich the overall experience for our trumpet students.
The Penn State Trumpet Ensemble is a core part of the studio experience which allows students to perform music of differing styles and develop group musicianship skills without a conductor (intonation, phrasing, and blend). The trumpet ensemble also provides festive music for ceremonial occasions on campus and in the Central Pennsylvania region. Each semester we have a concert in addition to several other performances and projects. We also are active in the International Trumpet Guild as an affiliate chapter (Penn State Trumpet Guild).
Graduates of the Penn State Trumpet Studio have become successful public music educators, matriculated to prestigious music schools for graduate study, and secured positions in D.C. premier military bands, fleet bands, orchestras, and full time/tenure-track collegiate teaching.
If you are interested in becoming a part of our studio, please reach out to Dr. Carpten to set up a visit and free trial lesson! We look forward to meeting you!
