The Penn State School of Music's guitar program offers a dynamic and inclusive environment for both majors and non-majors. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Jonathan Gangi, students receive personalized instruction tailored to their individual goals and skill levels.
Dr. Gangi, a renowned classical guitarist and educator, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the studio, fostering a supportive and inspiring atmosphere. Whether you're pursuing a degree in music or simply looking to enhance your guitar skills, the program provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers a wide range of materials.
Students have the opportunity to participate in guest masterclasses, ensemble performances, and recitals, gaining valuable performance experience and feedback. The program emphasizes both technical proficiency and artistic expression, ensuring that students develop as well-rounded musicians.
In addition to Dr. Gangi, the Penn State guitar program boasts the expertise of Mac Himes and Jesse Tyler Moore, teaching students outside the BM in performance track. Mac Himes, a masterful jazz guitarist and educator, brings a deep understanding of theory and improvisation to his lessons, helping students explore the rich and complex world of jazz music. Jesse Tyler Moore, on the other hand, specializes in pop/rock guitar and bass guitar, offering students the opportunity to delve into the energetic and diverse genres of rock and contemporary music. All three instructors are dedicated to nurturing their students' talents and fostering a love for music through their unique teaching styles and extensive knowledge.
